But for centuries, the rim’s necessity was never questioned; it was simply built to prevent splashing. You cleaned around it, you lived with the challenges of trapped bacteria and grime, and you never really thought about why.

We didn’t set out to make air conditioning quieter or smaller for the sake of a spec sheet. We set out to ask the same question the rimless toilet asked: why does it actually have to be built this way?
